Fred's 50th Birthday
with 57 Pages of Pink, Bittersweet Kicks, Fuck Fucks 6,140 is the official number of photos I have taken of Fred Negro. That might not be that important in itself, but if I hadn't have met Fred Negro, I wouldn't have taken the 153,860 other photos of bands and would still be only buying DVDs and playing video games as my only recreation. I went to Kooky Karaoke every Sunday for almost two years as I first saw it in the PUB strip and wanted to go. Also I started going to pubs as I saw it in the pub strip and the Beer Pig strip was mentioned and I wanted to go the GPB where it was drawn. The Fuck Fucks were one of the first bands I remember going to see when I first moved down to Melbourne and the Twits were one of the first bands I started going to see regularly. Shonkytonk is no longer with us, but Fred still plays with Dave Moll from time to time. I still want to see an I Spit on Your Gravy show some time in the future, but will see how I go. This was Fred's night so most of the photos are of Fred and his friends. I have plenty of photos of the bands playing at other times. Cheers to everyone who I said hello to, I didn't get to talk to everyone though or remember your names. I don't really have the money to get a taxi home these days, so I had to leave before the lock-in, but I am sure everyone had a good time. It was funny talking to Chris Wilson the next day as he didn't believe that Fred had even made it to 50. Kooky Karaoke would have been a mess that night. Surely someone else got some photos of it, I was too tired after the night before and taking photos at the Paradise Anthology launch. |
