Grand Final Eve Pie Night 2010
with JVG Guitar Method, Rebecca Barnard, Billy Miller, Ian Bland, South of the River Community Gospel Choir, Jack Howard, Grant Hansen After a big three weeks at the Caravan this was going to be the biggest gig for September and that wasn't a lie. The hall looked great with all the streamers and Peter and Richard did a good job decorating it. I ended up in the band room before the show to have dinner and talk to the band and was lucky enough to see the choir warming up. It did get a bit busy in there so I decided to go out to the main room after a while. Rebecca Barnard and Billy Miller played very well together and were as well received as they had been at the Mother's Day gig a few months ago now. Ian Bland told a story about a country footy side and did a spoken word beat poem with footballer's names later in the night, both were great and well liked by the audience. I hadn't seen the South of the River Community Gospel Choir since they played with the Prayerbabies ages ago so was looking forward to seeing them again. They did some excellent songs, the Collingwood theme song (Rebecca and Billy did St Kilda's) and ended up coming back for the last few songs to sing with the band. The JVG Guitar Method was joined by special guests Rebecca, Billy, Jack Howard and Grant Hansen who sang the Marngrook theme song. Tracey and Rebecca even sang a song together near the end of the night. It was even better than last year's pie night and even though there is a Grand Final replay next week it this one had the feeling so it wouldn't make sense to restage it. I am going to see Lil' Band O Gold so that will have to do.
