Greyhound Hotel 23/3/2007Bittersweet Kicks, Speed Demons, The Hybernators, Box Wars, Fuck FucksWith the Greyhound now not stopping live music right away after the new owners take over, it is not as urgent to get down there to see the supposed "last shows". I still wanted to go to this one as I wanted to see how the Box Wars would go after missing them on Grand Final eve a couple of years ago. Why are some people so cheap? $10 for 4 bands and five hours of entertainment is not much to ask. The line up of bands and the Fuck Fucks marathon set made it great value for money. I have missed quite a few of the Bittersweet Kicks shows, so I made up for it this time by taking more photos during their set. I thought they played very well and the early crowd enjoyed them. The Speed Demons were a great late edition to the line up after the Bang Bang Bangs pulled out at the last minute. I hadn't seen them since 2004 so it was great to see how they had progressed. I did have to hide behind the speaker stacks due to a fight (someone asked if I got photos of it later), but it was still a good set. I thought the Hybernators played very well despite what Nancy said later, for an added bonus the Box Wars had a battle during their set in the "people's uprising" theme where the punters got to work off some of their aggression. Even though the schedule said they would start at 1am, the Fuck Fucks ended up starting at 12.45am and played a marathon set right through to 3am. Special guest for the last couple of songs was Kim Volkman who played on the Fuck Fucks tribute to Ian Rilen. I also got to meet Tristan's sister and watched Antman throw pizza toppings at Fred's head. The Fuck Fucks will be playing semi-regularly throughout this wear I reckon so it will be well worth checking them out if you get the chance.
