The Junes are:
Sarah Carroll - guitar, vocals
Suzannah Espie - guitar, vocals
Glenyss Rae - fiddle, accordian, vocals
Barry Stockely - double bass
Chris Tabone - drums
Named after June Carter-Cash, the Junes include former members of GIT Sarah Carroll and Suzannah Espie along with Glenyss Rae from the Toe Sucking Cowgirls. Today's gig was their first gig as a group and they will play when they get the chance to get together as Glennys currently lives out of the state.
As I expected, they did play some of the old favourites from GIT, but there were also a lot of new songs that I hadn't heard them play before. Their style seems a bit faster more suited to dancing with Glennys on fiddle and accordian. It was interesting hearing Glenyss' voice coming through on the harmonies as it makes the songs sound a lot different.
It was good to see my friend Ilana there and also another fan of the band whom I had told about the Junes upcoming gig. There were quite a few people in the audience including Mick Thomas which was great seeing as the Junes were only playing the one set.
I will be looking forward to seeing the Junes play in the future and I will also be going to see Sarah & Suzannah's bands when I get the chance.
