The Pipettes

with the Motifs, Little Red
East Brunswick Club, 2nd January 2008

I had heard about the Pipettes last year and thought they looked great in the photos I had seen of them from SXSW. Not having a ticket to the Falls Festival this was the only chance I was going to get to see them so I was really looking forward to it.

The Motifs played very well and it was good to see them as I don't usually get to see that style of music around town.

Little Red were very excited in their set and they could have easily been the headline band for the night and people would have still enjoyed it. I also saw some of them dancing to the Pipettes later in the night.

I liked the tracks they played in the break before the Pipettes set as my friend played some similar ones on her radio show about Elvis one time and they were good to hear again. The Pipettes hit the stage dancing and didn't let up for almost the entire set. Luckily they played on a cooler night than the two previous or they would have collapsed in the heat and it wouldn't have been much fun in the venue.

There backing band was really tight also and it makes a big difference having live backing and sets them apart from other pop groups with all-girl line-ups. It was a great night and I will have to look out for more of their releases in the future. Cheers to Bram from Yidcore, Andrew McClelland and Jim Murray who I talked to on the night.
