Truckstop Honeymoon

with Headbelly Buzzard
East Brunswick Club, Saturday 1st March 2008

I had heard about this gig, but wanted to hear more about the band first so it was great to hear them on Twang that afternoon which made my mind up to go to the gig. I also managed to get up to Mi Corazon up the road for a couple of drinks before the show which was great.

Headbelly Buzzard played really well and it was good to see them still playing as I don't often get down to the Railyway Hotel these days.

I was surprised by the amount of people who turned up for the gig and even more that everyone seemed to know the songs already and kept calling for a few in particular. When I first heard about Truckstop Honeymoon I thought they would be a bluegrass version of the Handsome Family, but they seem much more fun and less serious chatting with the audience about "e" not being needed in New Zealand and trying to pronounce Geelong. The sing along to Bad News was great and also people dancing and making spectacles out of their hands and bull horns.

I will have to buy all their CDs later as there was too long a line at the end of the show. Cheers to the audience member who went across the road to get the band coffee afterwards when they mentioned the coffee machine being turned off at the pub.

Truckstop Honeymoon are currently on a road trip with their family in Australia and will be playing various places around Victoria, ACT and NSW in March so hopefully lots of people get to see them.
