Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes at the Toff in Town 03/05/11

with Gil Askey and guests
The Toff in Town, Tuesday 3rd May 2011

After quite a while of wanting to see them, I had finally first seen Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes singing the introductions for the comedians at the Upfront event at the 2011 Melbourne comedy festival and wanted to see them do some more songs (I wish they had've sung more on that night.)

Introducing for the night were a roving horn section who played out on the street (I missed it) and then climbed the stairs and went through the crowd.

The main support act was Gil Askey who I had not heard of before but who is famous in the Melbourne Jazz scene and had everyone up dancing from the first song. I am sure he would have played the entire night if he was allowed to.

Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes had a big entrance with confetti and the curtain opening at the same time and it was a big party rather than a sit down gig. I did feel a bit underdressed compared to some of their fans, but everyone else seemed to be having a good time.

Next week will be the filming of their film clip and I will try to get back for one more of their residency gigs before the end.
