with Jess Harlen trio, Stella Angelico and the last Minute Men, Kelly Ann Doll and Daniel Edgecombe
The Toff in Town, Tuesday 31st May 2011
I had already agreed to go to this gig before I realised it would mean I would have to go out three nights in a row, but I still wanted to go as it was Simoncee's last show with the Bangin' Rackettes and Mel said she was going. I was glad I arrived early this time as the show ended up selling out and the people who arrived by the time the main act started couldn't get in.
After missing them last time, I did get to take some photos of the marching band with Harry Angus walking up and down Swanston street, by the time they finished and I walked upstairs Jess Harlen was already playing.
It was so great to see Kelly Ann again after only talking to on Facebook and seeing her in online videos for such a long time. She did a dance with Daniel Edgecombe to warm up the crowd before Stella Angelico and the last Minute Men came on and played a lounge-style set that would go well at the Tiki Bar and supporting some bands I know.
The marching band also played in the middle of the crowd before the main act and joined the band on stage for a song.
As it happened I only ended up staying for a few songs of Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes as it was very crowded and I could not get to the bar, but it was still good to see them and I made sure I took plenty of photos of Simoncee before I left. It was good to get back to a show of the residency as I couldn't make it and I am looking forward to seeing what the band does next. Hopefully they get to play in Oakleigh in the future if all goes well.
