I had missed this event that last couple of years as this time of year is busy enough for me already. The event the previous week had a good line up, but I wouldn't have been able to make the Grand Final Eve gig if I had gone to that one. Molly had asked me to come see her sing the first song and some of her other friends also promised to come. I enjoyed getting to catch up with Molly while waiting for everyone else to arrive.

The backing band for the night was great and they did a good job changing musical styles for each of the songs. If I was in to funk style bands I would probably go to see them.

Molly singing Man Overboard was great and I have heard Deborah Conway sing the original live so it held up very well.

I didn't pay as much attention as I should have during Steve Clifford's version of Maurice Frawley's Harness Down due to the commotion of Molly and Mel's reunion. I have listened to that song dozens of times since buying the triple album last year so I can almost sing along.

It was good to see Al Gionfriddo as I haven't seen Dynamo in ages, the song went well I thought.

Linda J started off soft and finished loud for her song and was well received.

Quincy McLean decided to do his Skyhooks song a bit differently to the original, but I thought it worked well.

Quincy McLean & Linda J did a cracking version of the Scientists song that was easily the highlight of the first set and Bob Harrow finished it off singing God's My Pal.

Doing a cover of any Dirty Three song would be difficult, attempting to do it solo is unheard of, but Ben Morrison managed it and picked a good song as Alice Wading goes just long enough.

Daphne Shum sang well on her song and I will have to go to see Rat vs. Possum soon.

James O'Brien had to read the words, but it was a Died Pretty song with a lot of lyrics so it went OK.

Paulie Stewart and the FLYBZ had a lot of fund with their song by the Sacred Cowboys and Paulie popped a few of his own dance moves.

Paulie Stewart with Molly was also fun as the FLYBZ with the old Loved Ones favourite.

Owl Eyes went alright with the Mondo Rock standard, I hadn't seen her before.

Angie Hart was lovely doing the Divinyls song and it was good to see as she doesn't often get to vamp it up.

Charles Jenkins and Angie Hart singing a Go-Betweens song was also great.

Finishing off the night was Charles Jenkins doing a lesser-known Easybeats song. It was a good night and well worth staying out a bit later than usual on a weeknight for. I will try to make it to next year's event also.
