Lomond Hotel, Sunday 11th September 2011

I had missed the last benefit Margot had organised due to the Rockdogs playing the Tote team last year so I wanted to make it to this one.

It was good to see the Cartridge Family again as I had not seen them play since last year. They played first as they also had a gig on at the Union that day.

I always hear about the Good Time Medicine Band, but had not seen them play before. For some reason I thought they were a different style than they turned out to be but I still enjoyed them.

It had been quite a while since I had seen the Luau Cowboys, so it was good to see them again.

Appalachian Heaven were a band I had not seen before, but I thought went well even if it was a bit hard to hear them over the audience talking in some parts.

The Brunswick Blues Shooters came up the road from the Railway Hotel for a one-off gig at the Lomond. Harold even came down from Epping to play the drums.

The Chilly Strings also played some sweet blue grass tunes and I will look out for them.

There was a bit of a mix up with a schedule, but Kenny Joe-Blake eventually played and had some good songs.

My favourite band for the day was Coral Lee and the Silver Scream. I had only seen her play solo before and had missed her other band play. It was a great set and Coral reminded me a bit of Eilen Jewell and even did a kick to the side with her boot when she was singing. It was also good to see Andy Baylor and Ben Hendry played with Coral and introducing Elise Winterflood on the double bass.

It was great to see Moanna again as I had not seen her play since she was still playing with Sunshine Harvester in 2006. Special guests for her set included Mike Sinclair on the double bass and Andy Baylor.

Finishing off the day for me was Andy Baylor's Lomond All Stars with Harold Frith, Steven Teakle and Tracey Miller. I know there were a couple of bands afterwards but it had been a long day for me and I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I had tried to stay longer. Good news was that the day raised $2000 to support the Stroke Association of Victoria and hopefully I will get to see some of the bands in the future.
