with Chook Race, the Level Spirits
The Tote, Friday 10th June 2011
I was really looking forward to this gig as I hadn't seen the Level Spirits since they went over to SXSW and I only got to chat to Molly briefly after their last gig on the way home from another gig. I also hadn't seen the Puta Madre Brothers before and was interested to see what they were like.
As it turns out I was way too early for this gig, for some reason I though the doors opened at 8pm, but it was 9pm for some reason, which was strange as usually it is open much earlier. I did get to have a chat to Julian from the Level Spirits before the gig though.
I had not seen Chook Race, but I thought they went OK even with some instrument problems that they had.
It was great to see the Level Spirits and I took lots and lots of photos of Molly and ended up going through all of them after the gig with Molly.
I was surprised to see how many people turned up for the Puta Madre Brothers, in particlar the number of young women who came to dance as I guess I am used to older crowds at the gigs I go to now. Even though the crowd was not really that rough, I didn't like being blocked in at the front so I went up the back half way through and then out to the front bar to talk to Molly and friends. It was a good night and I am looking forward to seeing the Puta Madre Brothers in the future and yes I do know that their name means a swearword in Spanish.
