International Independant Record Store Day 2011

Basement Discs, Saturday 16th April 2011
with Charles Jenkins, Wolfgramm Sisters, The Spoils (Duo), Sarah Carroll, Chris Wilson, Sean MacMahon's Western Union, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Little John, Abbie Cardwell and Her Leading Men, Jeff Lang, MCs Rebecca Barnard, Rusty Berther, Dave Graney, Henry Wagons

I had been looking forward to this day for ages as I missed last year's Record Store Day as I had something else on and couldn't make it and I also hadn't seen quite a few of the acts involved for a long time.

Even though I had another gig on that night which wasn't to start until late, I was determined to stay for the entire day and even had lunch before I arrived so I would not have to leave the store. I purchased my CDs just after I arrived and left them behind the counter to pick up at the end of the day. I thought the MCs went well with Dave Graney and Henry Wagons amusing themselves as much as anyone else when they came on board later.

It was good to see Charles Jenkins again as I hadn't seen him play since the Pure Pop showcase back in January.

The Wolfgramm Sisters are always good to see and I am looking forward to their new album later in the year.

I hadn't seen the Spoils perform before and I will try to go see them play as a full band in the future.

Sarah played with Marcel Borrack and did some songs off her new album, which everyone was excited to finally have in the store. Chris Wilson also joined in for the last song and did some of his own in the next spot.

Sean MacMahon's Western Union had Alison Ferrier playing fiddle in it so it was great to see her again.

For the life of me I can't remember the name of the fiddle player in Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, but she seems to know me so I must have seen her play before (a bit hard to know which band as there are so many.) Another band I had heard about and not seen until now.

Little John were good as always and I will have to get their album soon.

Abbie Cardwell and Her Leading Men played well even with Abbie having a broken ankle and Ash Davies not having cymbals or a snare for the performance.

I had not seen Jeff Lang play since last year and then it was a duo also. I thought he went well and it was a long, but enjoyable day for me but I am looking forward to next year already.
