with Riff Fist, My Dynamite
The Tote, Saturday 23rd June 2012
I had been meaning to go see Barbariön again for at least a year now, but kept missing them due to other gigs. Having their gig on the eve of the Community Cup was perfect as I knew it was going to be a fun night and a good warm up for the next day.
After having a discussion with Barbariön about why they would not be having a pig on a spit, I was surprised to see a lamb on a spit in the beer garden. Unfortunately, I had already had a brisket sandwich down at the Gem for dinner so I couldn't have the lamb wrap with yoghurt. I did get some good photos of the meat though.
Riff Fist were a pretty solid metal band with a very tall lead singer, I talked to him later in the night and did hear some of his friends saying he could eat the entire lamb on a spit himself.
My Dynamite were a more rock type band who I had heard about before, but not seen. I thought they went alright but the more serious metal heads were here for the headliner.
I was still laughing about getting the photo of the lead singer from Barbariön eating an entire lamb joint himself when the band came on. I didn't even see the guitarist coming through the crowd on someone's shoulders until it was pointed out for me.
It was a fun gig and I enjoyed being up the front, even though I had to put on the wide angle lens to get everything in (they are big dudes). They even had pyro this time, albeit out in the beer garden and there was no sound from the guitar out there when he was playing. I really enjoyed the night and am happy with all the photos I got including the ones where I was being hit in the face by the guitarist's hair.
