with Bat Piss, Dead, The Spazzys, The Meanies, Regurgitator
The Tote, Saturday 9th June 2012
I had been looking forward to this for a few weeks since I booked it and it had sold out just a couple of days before so I was glad that I had a ticket in advance.
Although I have heard of the Hard Ons, I have never seen them, but I am aware they have played with a lot of other bands and was more than happy to support Blackie after the unfortunate incident that happened while he was working. Many of the bands I go to see have members who have a day job and I am sure people would do the same for them if called upon.
I have heard a bit about Bat Piss, mainly that gig they did a while ago with Bits of Shit and Cuntz that had the ad going for ages. I wish I had asked them if they were going to repeat it with the Fuck Fucks this time as they only started to get the venues in trouble over the poster.
Noticing the size of the guitarist's amp for the band Dead, I rushed up to the bar, only to meet another bloke who asked me "would it be pussy to get ear plugs for this band?", no, I knew they were going to be very loud and they were, especially with the drums moved up to the front of the stage. It did make a lot of difference for me being able to stay for the other bands also.
For the second time that day I got to see Ally play, this time with the Spazzys who were as good as they always were.
Moving off the sunken part of the pit for the Meanies, I kind of lost the best spot to take photos, plus I also got bumped back a bit while talking to someone. Was probably for the best as Link ended up in the crowd right were I would have been standing.
Regurgitator didn't start until after midnight and as I had Vika and Linda as well as Liz's Stringer's CD launch to go to the next night, I did not stay for the entire set, which would have finished after 1am. It was good to finally see them play live though and in a venue where they were right up close. Not sure how much the night raised for Blackie, but I am sure combined with the two other gigs in Victoria and the ones in NSW it should be a fair bit.
