with Papa Pilko & the Bin Rats
The Vanguard, Saturday 17th March 2012
As I was staying in Newtown for the weekend, I thought I would check out this place and it turned out perfect as by the time I had made it back from the Sexpo in Darling Harbour and walking around the city it was around 8pm and the doors had already opened.
The drink prices were decent compared to what I was paying at the Palace the night before when I went to see the Dirty Three so I was able to go back a few more times for a drink than I normally would. I even got to have a chat to Bob beforehand as he was there by himself and it was good to see him again.
First up were Papa Pilko & the Bin Rats, one of the local bands of the few that seem to play at the Vanguard regularly. They seemed to have a lot of their friends in the audience and got a bit rowdy, I almost got hit when the lead singer took his belt off and used it as a whip.
I didn't know how it was going to go for numbers, but by the time Bob Log III started the place had filled up nicely and there were a lot of people up the front dancing. There was a bit of a mosh up the front towards the end also.
Cheers to the staff at the Vanguard and also that bloke who I talked to on the way back to my hotel, I have forgotten your name sorry.
