with Mel Parsons, Shannon Bourne
Pure Pop Records, Sunday 20th May 2012
I was going to have a quiet Sunday afternoon and was trying to get through the rest of the photos from the "Raise the Roof" gig the week before for my website. Luckily I finished them in plenty of time and arrived down at Pure Pop to Dave saying he had just sent me an email asking if I was coming down.
Mel Parsons played first and had a few of her friends at her gig, which seemed to go well I thought.
I knew it was going to be a full house, so I got in touch with Mel and made sure she was there in plenty of time. Some other people weren't so lucky and even someone's mum from the band couldn't get in this time unfortunately, but the capacity is set and that's it. It would be worse if the Rebelles played as the audience would be outnumbered by the band.
Cheers to Clairy who was preparing to eat ribs from Senor BBQ wearing her frilly gloves when I went up to the shop part looking for Mel. I also ended up having the mixed grill later and hopefully will get to go to the B.EAST or Big Boy BBQ in the future with some friends as I can't eat all that food by myself, jeez!
I had missed Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes last show at the Prince as the Sonics were on that night and not playing any other solo shows. I heard it went really well. The band seems to have picked up some new songs also with a new Etta James number I don't remember them playing before. I always thought they should do a few more covers to make their set longer and also have something if people want another encore. Was not much room for dancing in the courtyard, but they did move the microphones back for the girls to have a dance during Love Letter.
There was somewhat of an exodus just before Shannon Bourne started. I don't remember him being that lippy. Was good to see him again and I finally made it down to see him at his residency like I said I would at the start of the month.
