with Oh Pep!, Courtney Barnett Band
Corner Hotel, Sunday 10th June 2012
I hadn't been to a big gig at the Corner on Queen's Birthday weekend since Wagons in 2009, so I was looking forward to this gig. I even left early the previous night and went home early from Vika and Linda as I knew it was going to go late.
Oh Pep! are a band I have been meaning to see since I heard them on JVG's show a while ago. I was glad they got a support at this gig and I am looking forward to their EP launch already.
I last saw Courtney Barnett play at the Music Victoria wrap party for their subscriber drive. I didn't get to see Immigrant Union's EP launch recently, but I will try to see them in the future.
The last few times I had seen Liz Stringer she had just been playing with Van or a couple of other people. Due to the album being a full band record it was great to see everyone involved playing on stage and for once they paid attention to the lighting as well as the sound so I could actually see the band and get some good photos. Was a lot more people than I thought would turn up for the Sunday of a long weekend and it went for longer than I expected. I left around the second song of the encore even though I could gotten a lift home with someone, was just too tired and wanted to go home. It was a great night and will be hard to top for gig of the year even with all the things I have coming up. I will not be able to make the launch at the Caravan Music Club, but I am sure it will go well and will be a more intimate event.
