with the Black Molls, Nuholani dancers
The Beafort/The LuWOW, Saturday 26th October 2013
I had heard about this a while ago and agreed to go as I missed the last one of these events due to being busy. It had been a while since I had seen the Black Molls also.
As fortune had it I turned the corner into Beaufort St just in time to see Fred Negro going in the door of the pub. People were well into it already and there was a production line of Mai-Tais. While I would have liked to get the ribs special, I settled on the Philly Cheese steak so I had something in my stomach to go along with the drinking.
Dave Moll had to go for his customary leak before playing and kept asking me throughout the two sets to make sure I took a photo of the "waiting chair" in the men's dunny. I duly did so and Dave even committed to the photo by pulling his pants and jocks down even though he didn't need to.
As I didn't want to get left behind I ended up going down to the LuWOW a bit before everyone else in time to see it open. There was a whole section reserved for the Tiki Crawl, finger food, extra dancers on the floor show along with a second raffle draw for the day. Out in the back room they showed a holiday film from the 1950s of a mystery Western Australian family's trip to the USA including Hawaii. Fred and Dave had left by that stage to get to their other gig, but for some reason I saw a woman walking around wearing Fred's hat. She said she had found it on the floor, so I had to rescue it and took it down to St Kilda Cellars to put it back on Fred's scone while he was singing.
It was a good day and I will try and make sure I can attend next year and bring some more people with me.
