Mikelangelo and the Tin Star Final Show

with the Blackeyed Susans, Saint Clare, Mightiest of Guns
as part of the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival 2013
Corner Hotel, Sunday 7th July 2013

This originally was going to be a "versus" gig with Mikelangelo and the Tin Star and the Blackeyed Susans going up against each other in a sort of contest, there was even a photo shoot to promote this angle, but during the week Mikelangelo announced that it was also going to be the last gig for the Tin Star so it became something special and definitely a gig not to miss.

While I had not seen Mikelangelo and the Tin Star until relatively recently, it is about quality not quantity and I had enjoyed the gigs of theirs I had seen including the excellent Northcote Beach Party show earlier in the year.

Starting off the day were Mightiest of Guns, who had some trouble with their bass during the set, I can sympathise with that having seen a friend break four guitar strings during the course of a gig at the same venue and also have every monkey wander into the band room to drink his rider (they changed the rules after that.)

The always classy Blackeyed Susans were up next and they dedicated their set to Mikelangelo and the Tin Star. I had not seen them for a while, but they were excellent as always and well worth coming out to see.

Everyone finally came up the front to watch Mikelangelo and the Tin Star and although Go Girl Gadget Go Go could not make it on the day, they did have Clare Saint Clare and her many costume changes to make up for it. Clare and Rob Snarski also did a song with Mikelangelo on guitar and some friends of the band came up to sing for Lee Hazelwood's Sooner of Later We All Make the Little Flowers grow. The band did try and play through as many of their songs possible in the time including a lot of dance numbers and people did get into it. While it is sad to see the band go, I am sure Mikelangelo has some exciting projects he will be working on in the future.
