Saturday 23rd November 2013

Wanting to ease into it for the Saturday I took the opportunity of going to see the Tides of Welcome Choir at Stoked on Hesse as I had missed them last year.

I did get to see the last part of the Hussy Hicks set and thought they were great. Some people went to see them four times during the festival as they enjoyed them so much.

I had missed seeing the Sweethearts during the year but had enjoyed the documentary following two years of the band. It was great see them again and I enjoyed their set and the new singers on their line up.

Having seen Ginger and Tonic a few months back at the Songstress event with Aluka and the Nymphs, I was really looking forward to seeing them again. Stoked on Hesse was the best venue to see them in as it was totally acoustic and they do vocal gymnastics quite well. It was a great set from the group and they even got a standing ovation at the end. I have to say it was one of my favourite gigs at that venue including the Junes and the Nymphs.

As I had planned to go on the QMF Express late in the day to see the Tiny Giants I had a short time to go back into the festival site. I managed to see the Pigs and Chris Russell's Chicken Walk before I had to go out and line up again.

On the train I was lucky enough to see Ginger and Tonic again on the way up and the Tiny Giants on the way back. After the train I got to have a BBQ dinner and have a rest for a bit.

I did get to see the last part of Genevieve Chadwick's set and thought she played great. I will look her up in the future.

Spiderbait were one of the big acts playing at the Lighthouse Stage for the night, but I did not stay long for their set as I was only allowed to be up the front for three songs.

As happened the previous night I took the opportunity to go see bands on the other stages including the Ray Mann Three and Stompy and the Heat.

I was lucky enough to see a full set from Twin Beast who I had not seen since they were called the Toot Toot Toots and supporting Wagons at the Corner. There were a lot of shenanigans and dancing during their set and they did good to hold the crowd as they were competing against the two main headliners of the night.

Finishing off the night for me were Papa Pilko and the Bin Rats who I had not seen since I went up to Sydney in early 2012. They went well and I managed to stay out of the way when the lead singer took his belt off this time.

It was a long day, anyone I have not written about I had already seen the day before or did not see for long enough to be able to get a full opinion of them.
