Van Walker & Liz Stringer at the Northcote Social Club 21/06/13

with Flash Company
Northcote Social Club, Friday 21st June 2013

Due to the Wagons playing on the Saturday night, I was originally going to go see Tex Perkins at the Flying Saucer Club. After watching the Vandemonian Lags concert with Van and Liz amongst others I changed my mind as I had missed seeing Liz's show last year on the same night.

I was lucky enough to get a ticket at the door for half price off someone whose friend could not make it and got to see the Flash Company (formerly Gen and Flora) playing the first part of the night.

Even though it was billed as Liz's gig, I thought of it more as a double headliner especially since I had to leave half way through due to having Wagons the next night and the Community Cup on Sunday.

Van was great as always and I also got to hear their song "The Convict's Girl and the Canton Man" from the Vanedmonian Lags concert live (I have ordered the CD already). Special guests for his set included Cal Walker and some friends.

The gig did sell out, I was surprised it was at the Northcote Social Club as I am sure a lot of other people would have liked to come, but Van and Liz still play gigs like the Drunken Poet where it is free to see them. The front row during Liz's set had besties and lovers hugging each other equally. On my way out I passed one woman who had fainted, but the cold night air perked her up once she was outside. I did have to get the bus rather than the tram at Clifton Hill due to tram works, but it was worth it.
