Rejang Dewa (traditional) performed by Gamelan DanAnda, Jeremy Dullard, Flatland BMX by Freestyle Now, NEON FLOW performed by Holly Durant
Federation Square, Saturday 7th June 2014
I had only heard about this event that morning. Luckily I checked my email before I went out to Grand Ole Twang or I would have missed it.
For some reason I had missed the events for the Light in Winter last year, but this year I have been getting "photographic opportunity" messages from the promoters.
I hadn't actually seen a live Gamelan performance before, it makes sense there would be an Australian group performing this music as there are a lot of Australians who live in Bali or share their time between the two countries these days.
The freestyle BMX show went well even though the surface was a bit slippery. There was a "no bikes" logo near where they performed but I forgot to get a photo of it.
For some reason I thought there would be several dancers, but the one was great also. The dancer wore a custom made costume for the event and the dance was specifically for the event. Quite a few people stopped to watch it and the dancer made good use of the space. Was a bit cold so I am sure they were glad to get changed afterwards.
There were a couple of other events on afterwards, but I was getting hungry by then so I left to go get dinner. The next night of events will be for Winter Solstice on the 21st of June.
