JVG Guitar Method Album Launch 24/05/14

with Ian Bland
The Labour in Vain, Saturday 25th May 2014

Even though I could not make both days, I wanted to go to at least one day. It was also convenient as not many gigs start and finish so early in the day and I could arrange it so I could go to the outside broadcast for Film Buffs' Forecast and then come to this one.

Special guest for the day was Ian Bland doing some of his poetry before the first and second sets, which went down well.

I had tried to see the Large Number 12s at the same venue before and had to leave as it got too busy. I may have overdone it as I arrived half an hour before anyone in the band turned up. JVG got the tram down and the rest of the band was stuck in traffic, they did eventually turn up and I received the message of "support" from Dan Warner calling JVG a dickhead as usual.

It sounds like a good album with Dale and Mark also getting some of their own songs. I have talked to Dale Lindrea about his shenanigans, he said it was the only way to get any attention so he keeps doing it.

I had to laugh at JVG's insistence that they are not a "joke" band. A lot of people don't really know what a real performance is these days due to so many boring bands around these days. Performing means you have to put yourself there out in front of the audience even if it means you will get made fun of.

I didn't end up buying the album, but will try to do so in the future. After the show I went to the LuWOW for a couple of cocktails and dinner and was home by 9.30pm, very civilized.
