with Saint Clare
as part of the Leaps and Bounds Festival 2014
Collingwood Town Hall, Friday 11th July 2014
I had heard of this but wasn't sure if I was going to make it. I was glad that I did make it in the end as it turned out to be a great show.
As Mikelangelo said he doesn't try to impersonate Elvis directly, he just does Elvis' songs in his own style and it was a big show with a full band, dancing girls and even Saint Clare doing guest songs.
I have heard that Collingwood Town Hall used to host gigs in the past, but it has been closed for renovations for a while and I believe that this was the first concert in the newly renovated space.
Cheers to Marita from the Orbweavers who came to say hello as they did a short set in the front of the Town Hall for the VIPs.
Mikelangelo started up on the balcony and then made his way down to the stage. For the second set he appeared behind a group of people to photo bomb them announcing the start of that part of the show. The stage was very tall so he had a bit of trouble getting down and back onto the stage, but he did have a good time going out into the crowd and even sat on my knee at one point.
The show was mainly seated, but the general admission audience ended up dancing in front of the stage towards the end of the first set and for all of the second.
It was fun night and I was glad to have gone. I am looking forward to seeing another show from Mikelangelo in the same style in the future. His new album featuring songs about Melbourne will be released later in the year.
