with Up Up Away, the Horns of Leroy
Toff in Town, Saturday 5th July 2014
I had seen Sex on Toast playing at Club Twok at Easter and didn't know what to make of them. Since then I had heard a bit more of their music and still did not want to make of them but decided to give them another go. The lead singer played guitar with Tazner at Dr Sketchy's the previous week so I promised to try and make it to one of their shows.
As usual I arrived early at the Toff in contrast with most of the audience, but it meant I got to see both of the support bands. Up Up Away are a newer band and remind me of the Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes somewhat with more guitars. They did have a few people dancing to them even earlier in the night.
The Horns of Leroy made a big impact on arrival and even had a guest sousaphone player all the way from Adelaide. I will have to look out for them in the future.
I was planning to have a dance during Sex on Toast, but everyone pushed up the front and there wasn't any room. It was a great show and hopefully the band gets to play a lot more shows in the future.
