International Independent Record Store Day 2015

with MCs Neil Rogers/Ian Bland, Tracy McNeil, Raised by Eagles, Mikelangelo, The Black Sorrows, Abbie Cardwell
Basement Discs, Saturday 18th April 2015

Unusually for this time of year I happened to be working so I thought I would make good use of it this year and bought quite a few albums on Record Store day. I hadn't bought that much for a while and some of the albums I had been meaning to buy but had not gotten around to it. I had a second go around when Abbie Cardwell dropped off her limited edition ukulele album and Mikelangelo's Cohen/Waits/Cave album he only usually sells at gigs.

I did get up pretty early for me for a Saturday so I could go shopping early, but it also meant that I made it in time to see Tracy McNeil's band who I have not seen for a while. It was a good set.

I went out to get a quick lunch in the laneway and back down to see Raised by Eagles who had their own dancer and someone who knew all the lyrics to their songs. Their album launch should be good coming up May 22nd at Howler.

At the half way point Neil Rogers changed over to Ian Bland who also decided to do extended introductions for a couple of the performers who enjoyed them (that is the reason why they were laughing in the photos.)

It was good to see Mikelangelo again as I had not seen him play a gig since the launch of his album last year.

The Black Sorrows were enjoyable as always and I would consider buying their new double album as the songs they played were great.

Finishing off the day for me was Abbie Cardwell with her brother Jeb. The last time she played at a Record Store day was back in 2011.

It was a good day and I am looking forward to more in store performances at the store and Record Store Days in the future.
