Sex on Toast Oh Loretta! Single Launch

with Peter Bibby, the Cactus Channel
Toff in Town, Sunday 20th June 2015

While I was considering going to the Models for a while, when I heard of this gig I definitely wanted to go to it as I enjoyed seeming the band last time. It was about 30 degrees hotter in the venue than outside so everyone got hot and sweaty by the end of the night but it kind of suited it.

Peter Bibby was up first and kind of reminded me of Gareth Liddiard's singing at the moment, but I won't hold that against him.

The Cactus Channel played an excellent set to a slowly filling room. As I expected I turned around towards the end of their set to find the room full. I had not noticed as it seemed to take a long time to fill the room on the night.

Sex on Toast's set started with them screening the new video for their single on a big screen at the front of the stage. The band seem to be doing well and have scored a support with Hiatus Kaiyote for their upcoming tour. There were quite a few other musicians at the gig as extra saxophone players appeared on stage at one point. Although there was no room to dance I don't know how they would go out at the Caravan Music Club as the hipster crowd complains if they have to go one station out of the city. I still would like to see them in a bigger venue though.

Special note for the night were the white costumes and tassels. Also there was so much homoeroticism on stage I could not capture it all with my camera. Even though this band might seem like a piss take, they do take their music seriously and there is no one with the same sound in Melbourne currently. I will try to see them again before the end of the year.
