with Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier
Bella Union, Thursday 14th April 2016
I wasn't sure if I was going to make this gig due to not working and decided to have a lie down. Getting up in the early evening I found out I was on the door and managed to make it to the gig in a bit under an hour.
I had last seen Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier performing in the Shir Madness festival last year so it was good to see them again. They were going to do a gig at the Caravan Music Club later in April but I was not sure if I was going to make it. For this performance they did a set of their originals and then did a set of David Bowie covers with the band, which they are also doing with the Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra coming up at the Sydney Opera House.
It was a fun night and Deborah Conway said it was "terrifying" as they had to do whatever Casey said during the covers section. I liked when she revealed that Casey was still finishing the opening song when the band had already started playing, he does make it look easy writing music.
As an extra special treat it was also Xani Kolac's birthday week so she got to do an extended solo during one of the songs.
Next month's performance will be by Charles Jenkins which should be great and hopefully some more people I know will be in. Also Heather who used to work at the Yarra is behind the bar now.
