with the Grand Magoozi (solo), the Ocean Party
Howler, Friday 9th September 2016
Oh Pep! had been gone for such a long time and although I have been following their adventures via social media and enjoying the release of their new music videos, I wanted to see them again myself back in Melbourne. I know they have to do the overseas thing while they are young but I miss them so much.
Due to the rain I was glad to have someone else I know who was going and they offered me a lift home so I did not have to rush off straight away afterwards and also not have to spend ages getting the tram home.
As I expected the place was pretty empty when the first act started but I thought the solo version of the Grand Magoozi went OK. Also the Ocean Party seemed to be pretty good and have a new album coming out soon.
The place was chockers but I am not sure if it sold out by the time Oh Pep! started. The show marked the first appearance of the painted guitar Pep made for Olivia and also the strap came off mid-song and had to be re-attached. Olivia said she enjoyed playing with the electric guitar as the songs were composed on one.
I enjoyed the show so much that I put my camera away half way through and just watched it instead. Also the fact I am still getting used to my new camera being able to take a lot more photos than I am used to and not having to swap over the prime lens to do so.
After the show I got to say hello to Olivia and Pep and get them to sign my CD. I don't really know the band they are touring with in the USA, the Mountain Goats or something but I hope they have a good time and I look forward to seeing them later in the year.
