Newport Rail Workshops, Saturday 7th March 2020

I had heard this was on but thought I was going to something else that weekend. That did not end up happening so I decided to go to this on the Saturday instead. I knew it was on for three days, but that seemed to be for the real enthusiast that wanted to see every locomotive shunting in and out over the course of the weekend. There were chairs so you could sit and watch.

Went the dining car first up but did not have a Devonshire tea. Would be great to go out in that train as it seems quite comfortable.

I do sort of remember the red rattlers as we caught one down to the Royal Melbourne Show in the early 1980s. You could reserve a compartment for yourself and your travelling party. Went and sat in one for a bit to soak in the atmosphere. Did not get beat up by Sharpies fortunately.

Did end up getting some raffle tickets and found a 1970s vintage model trains magazine from the UK at the opp shop in Newport for $2. Also had a sausage or two from the sausage sizzle but the puppy was not allowed a bit of sausage, boo!

Was not really there for that long, about an hour and a half. Was too many people who wanted to get on the 1950s vintage bus so I walked up to the railway museum and then up to Williamstown to get some lunch proper.

Was a great day and I will try to get on at least one of the Steamrail trips when I get a job.
