with Kim Volkman
George's Lane, Thursday 31st December 2020
I wasn't sure I was going to make it to a New Year's Eve gig this year as the only band I had wanted to see was playing out of town (I saw them last year in Footscray Park). As usual this gig was announced and then another one I would have gone to right after I got tickets to this one.
On the way there I met the flute player from the old Giraffe Party band who ended up getting his flute out during the show. I got there at 7pm so I could get a seat up the front and ordered a cheese platter and dinner (I had to remind them a couple of times).
The main band started a lot earlier than they thought they would and had a big break in the middle. Kim Volkman played in the set break so the band would have another set starting at midnight. Fred kept forgetting the words of the songs and the other band members had to take over.
I did get to talk to Elizabeth and Angela who asked me why I had not been sending her presents in Pokemon Go (I hadn't played it since April). After feeling a bit tired and having enough for the night I decided to leave at 11.30pm and was outside the Hungry Jacks for midnight with people cheering out of their windows of the apartments and waving sparklers on the balcony while the protective services loaded an ice-head into an ambulance. I got home just before 1am and went straight to bed.
