as part of the Vault Sessions: Live & Lo-Fi
Arts Centre Forecourt, Saturday 6th February 2021

I had missed their last gig with Fanny Lumsden as I had Mick Harvey on the next night and this was only their second in person gig since I saw them the weekend before everything closed last year. They were meant to start an east coast tour to promote their new album but it all got cancelled. During lockdown they have been doing streaming gigs and linked up with bands overseas via the Global Music Match program. I also ended up joining their Patreon and have enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes videos.

Making the most of the day I went into the city early to go to the State Library and saw a bit of their program outside. Unusually for me I didn't stay that long in the library and ended up down at the Arts Centre about an hour and a half too early. Next time I could have walked down easily. I did get to check out a couple of shops I have been meaning to in the CBD since they were closed including Basement Discs which is where I saw them last.

Was great to get to talk to their mum again as I hadn't seen her for a while either and I remember her first asking me to come see them at the Foot in the Door stage when they played at Queenscliff Music Festival back in the day.

It was a good show even though that location is a bit noisy with all the trams going past, foot traffic and kids on skateboards who won't go away even though there is a skate park over the other side of the road. I am looking forward to seeing Charm of Finches again in the future.
