with J.P. Shilo, the Letter String Quartet
Memo Music Hall, Saturday 16th January 2021
Took all the trouble to get an Uber down from Collingwood and ended up arriving 20 minutes to early, and then extra as the band was still finishing sound check. As I didn't want to be rushed and had a late lunch I decided I would not be getting my dinner until after the show. Some the audience in the line talked about knowing Mick Harvey back in the day and how he lost his bond due to members of the Birthday Party trashing the house they were sharing at the time (who doesn't have a Nick Cave story by this point?)
Opening the night were J.P. Shilo and the Letter String Quartet who did a few songs each to start as it was originally meant to be two shows for the night, but restrictions easing meant they combined the shows into one longer one. I had not seen JP Shilo for ages and talked to him the lobby after the show.
As it was a seated show and it worked out cheaper, I ended up getting a bottle of wine and mainly just enjoying the show as I was too far back to get many photos. It was a great show and mostly instrumentals as Mick Harvey does a lot of soundtrack work. I looked up his latest album and it was not for sale online from JB Hifi as it was too popular.
It was a classy show and I do want to try and get some of Mick Harvey's albums in the future especially the Waves of Anzac/The Journey one when I can find a copy. Against my better judgement I decided to pass on going to Topilnos for dinner and got a burger from Rockit in the city, never again I had a crook guts the next day.
