Seaworks, Saturday 11th December 2021

This one was a surprise to me as I had originally planned to go to the dog movie marathon at MonsterFest but could not pass this one up as it would give me the opportunity to see pretty much everyone I wanted to see in the one go and not need to see them again until next year.

I also managed to be able to take photos with my big camera for the first time as I usually end up leaving it at home. With the QR check-in app using up so much battery I turn my phone off at gigs these days.

The train line to Williamstown was meant to have been opened by the time of the festival but unfortunately it had been delayed a week and also no trains on the Werribee line. I was going to see how I felt as to how long I would stay for the day.

Due to waiting for the bus at Newport I arrived after the first act had finished and Kerryn Fields had already started. As it turned out I only went up the front during the first couple of songs to get photos and then just hung out up the back as you could hear it easily from both stages.

I did try and go listen to the live outside broadcast for RRR during the day but there were no speakers in there so you couldn't hear what they were saying really plus there were some broadcast issues. I listened to Twang the day after and did hear the problems on the previous shows.

Cheers to the Pirates Tavern (renamed the Acid Country Bar in honour of Dave Heard), for washing out my bag that had my dip in it when the lid came off. I just went to Fancy Hanks and got lunch in case they sold out. As it turned out only the Taco Truck sold out of everything, which you want as it meant they got a lot of business.

I can't say I missed anyone that I wanted to see. I might not have been able to get in to see a few of the acts or it wasn't worth just taking photos during the last song so I left them out. It was too loud for me up the front for some of the bands like with the Warner Brothers so I went up the back and then went down to wait for Mick Thomas to start. You could hear the act perfectly well all the way down the front in the main shed.

I did just walk up the front and start talking to Liz Stringer when she was setting up like it was a gig at the pub. Cheers to Si Philanthropist who I said hello to during the day. A lot of the bands ended up going to see other bands as they all know each other as it was only Victorian acts this time. This might end up meaning that I will not go out to shows for a while as I have seen everyone I wanted to see which was kind of the point of going to this.

It was great to be able to see everyone after such a long time and give Sarah her presents and Jen the photo magazine she helped me proof read. It was that kind of day that even strangers would start talking to you as apparently a lot more people know me than I know them.

As it happened I did end up making it to the start of Wagons but decided to leave about three songs in due to the transport situation. I went to Newport thinking it was going to be cheaper to get an Uber but it was going to be $165 so I just waited for the bus. Some people said they just waited and kept refreshing and eventually the price went back down. No Cripple Creek Ferry this year so there were a lot of people who didn't get home until late. I saw there was an after party but maybe another time.
