I had last been to see this show in 2018 when I was living closer to the city and also working. I had minus money after coming back from a trip to the USA and could not make the one in 2019. Last year's show was a video you could download from a performance they did on Casey and Catherine's farm.
Due to work I wasn't going to be able to get to this but they decided to have a matinee show for the first time which was great as it made things easier for me as I had to go into work for the week before Christmas.
Best "it's like the Nothing never was" moment was each of the band members coming up and saying hello like I had only seen then the other week. Unfortunately due to COVID safe rules I did not get a hug from Casey this year.
Mucho hilarity from them forgetting Jude Perl was upstairs in the first set and she had to come down and do her song just before the second set. It was an excellent song and I recommend everyone look it up.
As is the usual format the first set is original songs and the second is traditional Christmas carols. The audience has gotten wise to some of the jokes so now can do the off-key breaks in Deck the Halls to a T (Geraldine Quinn was touched). Due to COVID there was no public shaming of people who messed up by Casey throwing them in the air but they did have some audience participation on We Three Kings and a substitute singer from the audience due to the drummer losing his voice for his one song.
It was a funny show and hopefully the ASRC benefit makes an appearance again next year after being rested in 2019 and not happening for the last two years.
