LORETTA x RUBY "Eighteen" Single Launch

23/23/2022

with Baby Velvet
John Curtin Bandroom, Saturday 17th September 2022

I had been looking forward to this and booked it ages ago. Supposedly Loretta and Ruby had been concerned people would not turn up, that was never going to happen they have loads of friends. Was even a bunch of people I do not recognise from their other shows and even other musicians made it like Ben Mastwyk.

Was also a great opportunity for me to finally catch up with Baby Velvet as I had missed their album launch due to it being on the other side of town on a Thursday and I was still having to get up for work early. I have listened to their album a lot by now but resisted singing along with their songs. Hopefully I will get to see them more as Hannah is living in Melbourne and they will play more shows regularly.

It was a special night and also a special band never to be repeated with two drummers as it was a combination of members of Jazz Party and Ruby's bands. They mainly alternated songs but leant more towards Ruby and Loretta's own songs and the special event being the single which had Darcy guesting on it for the saxophone parts.

As I was right over in the corner some of the photos had microphones in the way. Strange that there were not any other photographers there it was a big gig?

Hopefully it is not a one-off occurrence and I look forward to Loretta doing more of her own songs and also seeing Ruby again.

I ended up leaving much later than I usually do since I had to kiss all the women goodbye and also there were people I had not seen for several years there.
