Jimco and the Offcuts at Bird Rock 09/09/23

Bird Rock, Saturday 9th September 2022

Since Sarah had let me stay at her place for the weekend for the Tides of Welcome anniversary I thought it only reasonable that I go see her support slot at this new venue at Jan Jac I definitely could not have gotten to by myself. I did once go to Sarah's launch at Piping Hot Chicken Shop and not tell her I was coming before but this was even further than I could get.

It is only a very new venue and not sure if they have worked out what kind of music they actually want there as yet. Surely not acoustic acts or people where the audience are just going to yell at each other over the music? They are perfectly fine to do whatever they want, it is their place. Not sure why you would go and see a band and then spend the entire time talking through it? Go to the Ocean Grove pub and get hit over the head with a drip tray maybe?

I had not actually seen JimCo and the Offcuts before. Seemed a strange place they played. Maybe this band is better just going into the middle of the room and playing in the round since people would listen more? They are old-timey and would sound better going through the one microphone I have seen a similar setup with the O Brother Where Art Thou tribute show.

It wasn't a bad place, just has to work some things out and hopefully do better in the future.
