Brunswick Beach Party 21/01/23

26/26/2023

with Rufino and the Coconuts, Mikelangelo and guests
Brunswick Ballroom, Friday 20th January 2023

Mikelangelo asked me to come along to this as he hasn't been performing as Mikelangelo since he moved up to NSW a few years back. I was asked if I could make the Basement Discs instore the previous week but due to my hip giving me grief and having trouble last time I was there I passed on that.

Due to fart-arsing around at home for longer than I usually do I was running late but as it turns out the bands don't start until 8.30pm so I was there in plenty of time. Thanks to Pumpy and his partner for letting me sit on their table. I did get to say hello to Vinko by walking up and saying "HELLO VINKO!" and got a hug off Mikelangelo.

Rufino and the Coconuts had not played in Melbourne for a while either and is one of the members of the Black Sea Gentlemen who used to play with Mikelangelo in the past.

There was a dancing area sectioned off near the bar but due to my hip I did not indulge.

Mikelangelo did the middle set with some special guests and got a bunch of people up dancing with a Violent Femmes cover and some other songs.

Even though there was another set I decided to leave as I had another show on the next night. Was a bunch of people who stuck around and had a party though. Seemed to go well even with the Yacht Rock night on the next night. Will try to see Mikelangelo or Michel Simic next time when he comes down.
