with MC Lizzy Hoo, Cool Out Sun, Sway, Regurgitator, Yacht Rock Revival (unseen)
Footscray Park, Sunday 31st December 2023
Hard to believe that it is four years since I went to one of these. In 2020 there was not one for obvious reasons and I went to a much smaller event in St Kilda. In 2021 and 2022 I had overnight online life drawing and in 2022 attempted to go straight through from when it started to as long as I could go which turned out to be eight hours in a row. This year there was not going to be one overnight from that organiser so I did the one before which turned out to be starting at 3.30am on New Year's Eve and finishing at 10am Australian time due to models being in Norway, Eastern Europe and California.
I did have some sleep at least and was thinking I would just leave after the main band if it got too hard. Cheers to Jeff who was working on staging and supposedly there was someone else there who knew me right up the front but I didn't see them. Can't say I was really in love with the stage position this year, kept getting the sun in my eyes and not being able to get photos.
Lizzy Hoo was great as an MC and even got compliments from people on the Facebook event page which is pretty hard to do. I will try and see her in the future sometime.
The first act was alright and I did enjoy seeing Neda on percussion who I had not seen for quite a while.
It was great to see the Merndas again after seeing them at the Community Cup. They got all the little kids up the front excited and dancing.
Sway the aerials team was there to help have something to look at while they did the changeover for Regurgitator. You really need to see them in action to get the most out of it but I did get some photos. Also the act works better in person rather than watching it from a phone video. I see they have their own music composed for their acts so hopefully I will get to see them again around the place.
As expected my leg started playing up and also everyone rushed up to the front including kids using my bag as a step. I tapped out after the first few songs and started walking through the crowd to the back but did see most of the band's set. There were still people rushing into the park right up to the fireworks. I was actually at the HSP stall near Footscray Market and watched most of the fireworks across the road from Franco Cozzo while eating a gozleme, the way it was meant to be seen!
I will see how I go for next year depending on who is playing or if they decide to go back to overnight for the NYE life drawing.
