Hot Tubs Time Machine/Our Carlson Sneaky Meat Boy/Gig Etiquette Double 7" Single Launch

Donati's Fine Meats, Saturday 12th October 2024

Due to booking TISM tickets at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and then shortly after that Gillian Welch and David Rawlings in January I thought it was a bit much to also get tickets for Out on the Weekend plus I wanted to go see some Melbourne Fringe shows instead due to missing the whole thing last year being ill. It was good that this event came up and it seemed interesting enough.

I had seen this band at the group show launch I was in at the Old Bar Gallery earlier in the year and wondered if I would see then again. Still have not seen Vigilatonie yet though except on socials. Also I thought it would be good to actually see a full show of Our Carlson as I left early at the show he did at the end of the day's festivities at Estonia House due to being tired.

As usual I ended up at the venue a lot earlier than I thought I was going to be and there wasn't really anywhere to sit (they got some milk crates for me), so I went down to Cinema Nova to sit in the bar for a bit.

Was a very limited capacity gig with only about 40 people being able to fit in the shop and that included standing behind the counter.

Our Carlson got to pace up and down and usual but DJ Cashdaddy was up in Ballarat doing a gig on the day. Had to laugh whenever he grabbed the rail, you get grease all over your hands doing that. He's good enough and I don't usually get into that sort of music at all apart from going to see Sleaford Mods (everyone did that, they will be Rod Laver Arena next time I swear).

It seemed to be a special gig for Hot Tubs Time Machine who reminisced about growing up in Warragul in the early 2000s and going to Radfords down the street to get frankfurts. I did ask him when he was there as my dad worked for Radfords in the early 1990s and used to stand outside the shop spruiking, people would cross the street to get away. Later they replaced him with a speaker and he got injured by a steer in the yards at the Radfords abattoirs. He worked for AQIS for the rest of his career and would come home early to annoy mum. He did ask me about this gig when I mentioned it which rarely happens!

Next time I take a cushion for gigs like this or lug that folding chair with a 200kg weight limit I wanted to tear my leg off by the end of it. The band ended up next door at the Indonesian place for dinner I think they actually ended up having vego after all that.
