Archie's Creek Hotel, Wednesday 1st January 2025

After only six years of Archie's Creek Hotel running as a venue and after it had actually closed I finally get to see a gig there. Never say never!

What happened is I posted in October on the Mick Thomas and Weddoes fan group on Facebook about there being a New Year's Day gig there and was offered a lift down there and back by Linda and Dave who go there every year. My attempt to actually book a ticket was cut short when Pete refunded my money.

As it happened I ended up doing the usual New Year's Eve life drawing marathon a couple of days before as the one I wanted was when I was going to be out. Most likely for the best as I was up at 4.30am for a 4.45am start and then drew until 11am on the day I did it.

Thinking I was going to be late to the pick up at Southern Cross I ended up getting there an hour early and sitting down and reading the book I got a couple of days before. Should have gotten a packet of bread rolls and an avocado like I saw someone got from Woolies for lunch rather than stopping at Kilcunda as it was too busy there when we did stop.

I didn't know what was happening when I got to the venue as technically I did not have a ticket and the venue would have taken a dim view of me barging in. Luckily Sue came out and told me just to come in when everyone else did.

Can't really stand at gigs these days or at least need to sit down in the breaks so I was lucky enough to find a seat on a table near the front before it got too busy.

Was great to see Lisa Miller and band again and I did get momentarily confused about Cool Sounds but it turned out to be a different band than I was thinking of. I ended up getting two slices of pizza and then only eating half of each and giving the rest to the table Linda and Dave were on with their friends.

As it turns out I hadn't actually gotten to see Mick Thomas for about 2 years now and did not go recently as I was going to the New Year's Day show. It was worth going on New Year's Day just to say I had finally been. I recently did a retrospective of how many times I had taken photos of Mick Thomas and band and it turned out to be quite a lot.

We ended up leaving just before 7pm and I was back at Southern Cross by 8.30pm just in time to get Red Rooster for dinner. Was a great day, well worth taking an extra day off work to recover and go back on the 3rd.
