Way Out West Roots Music Club, Sunday 5th October 2025

I wasn't really planning on going to this one but had heard in passing that Sarah and Shannon were playing while having Roots of Rhythm on in the background at work. I would not have heard it until later if I did not have to have something on due to hardly anyone being in the office some days.

It had been quite a while since I saw Fiona Boyes the last time was at the Caravan Music Club in 2017 in Oakleigh. Still was close enough to home and I wanted to have something from the kitchen as it looked nice from when I was there last time and had the cheesecake.

Was great to see Sarah and Shannon play and getting to play with the band. Made up with missing them the next week as they were on too late for me.

Starting off the set for Fiona Boyes was the song from Bluesfest with Chris Wilson playing and they played it on the screen with a photo slideshow. The show is three sets but is early enough I can still get home early as it is on my side of town. Seems to be a lot of the same people who go to it and they say hello even when I come in when there is not a show on.

I liked the cigar box guitar Fiona Boyes played and the slide guitar bits. As Kerri Simpson said there is a lot of different types of blues and I liked the funny song she did as there were was originally a lot of humour in blues music before it got all serious with "blues guys".

An enjoyable afternoon and I will try and get to see Jeff Lang the next month at least to make for annoying him during the year on socials. 20-year anniversary of "the obligatory unwelcome harmonica player" quote at Queenscliff Music Festival the same month.
